The Christmas story whispers it and now Epiphany exclaims it:

It’s amazing what God enables people to see as long as they’re willing to do the difficult job of journeying.

The wise men–these Persian astronomers–fueled by a holy hunger to see and discover, weren’t content to stay a distance and speculate.  Indeed, to stand at a distance and examine the star from afar would’ve been comfortable, yes. Convenient? Sure.  Demanding? Not really.  Wise? Not at all.

So they packed up and set their eyes to the horizon to take a step in a new direction; to accost other kings; to worship the one responsible for the light they were seeing and then, as a byproduct of it all, to go home by a different road.

In a brand new year, I wonder if we’d be so resolved as a people of faith.  On this Epiphany Sunday, tune in with Rev. Jake Steele and CUMC as they chronicle the movement of the Magi.  May the Lord richly bless you in your hearing and receiving!
