As clean-up from the February flooding continues in southern West Virginia, here are upcoming scheduled events (18 years old and up) for those interested in lending a helping hand. 

Help is especially needed in McDowell and Mingo Counties along with some work in Wayne County area.     

If you would like to organize a day/or multi-day group please contact Pastor Jim McCune, Disaster Relief Coordinator – West Virginia Conference United Methodist Church at 304-813-1274.

*For carpooling purposes, permission has been obtained from Dutch Miller’s Beckley Auto Mall, 1020 Robert C Byrd Drive Sophia, WV to leave cars for the day next to the Goodwill containers on their lot.   

  • Saturday, March 22nd, 9:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. in Welch, WV.

    • (Note: we already have 14 signed up for this event but will have 2 houses on the same street in Welch. We can take up to 20.)
  • Saturday, March 29th, 10:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. in Welch, WV 
  • Wednesday-Thursday April 2nd-3rd in Welch, WV area (work one or both days – housing at Houston UMC Retreat Center, Kimball)

The Appalachian Christmas Project is collecting the following for the flood victims in West Virginia:

  • air mattresses;
  • laundry detergent;
  • non-perishable food items;
  • dish soap;
  • hygiene products;
  • bedding;
  • any feminine supplies;
  • towels & washcloths;
  • first aid items;
  • kitchen towels;
  • pet food & supplies;
  • trash cans & totes;
  • silverware;
  • garbage/contractor bags;
  • kitchen utensils;
  • rubber gloves;
  • work gloves;
  • pots & pans;
  • dishes;
  • rubber boots;
  • baby supplies;
  • any size winter shoes & boots;
  • cups & glasses.

Please drop your donations off at the church office.
