Be honest: When’s the last time you had one—an ‘Ahaa,’ that is? Maybe you remembered where you left your keys or perhaps it was in the parking lot when you spotted your car after an embarrassingly long search; Maybe you blurted it out when you finally dug up that really important document that you feared was long gone. “Ahaa!” The word is so rewarding to say because the road to get there is often so rigorous.
But leave the world of lost keys and parked cars for a second and ask yourself: “When’s the last time I found out something about my faith?” When’s the last time you plumbed a new depth of discipleship? Unfortunately, for many of us, that box remains buried in a mental archive next to our confirmation certificate or our high school yearbook.
What’s unbelievable to me is that it doesn’t seem bothersome to many. Perhaps part of the disconnect has to do with the perception that those of us who have questions about faith would get criticized for not having any. But this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Could it be that our lack of questions is really killing us spiritually and emotionally?
That’s why CUMC is creating a space for an “A.h.a.a.!” Why? Because it Always Helps to Always Ask! What do you believe? What’s it mean to be a part of a church? What do United Methodists believe? How is this faith community similar to or distinct from other faith traditions? Does it make a difference? Does my life as a disciple go beyond church attendance and worship on Sunday? More importantly, how do I become a more faithful follower of Jesus?
Have you asked questions like these and you’re hungry for a forum to flesh it all out? You’re not the only one! Great news: A group is forming that’ll address all of this and more! Join Pastor Jake and others as we discover what it means to be a G.E.E.K Methodist and why it matters. In the end, an “Ahaa!” is guaranteed. See you there!
