“The Lord is my shepherd. I have everything I need. He gives me rest in green pastures. He leads me to calm water. He gives me new strength. For the good of his name, he leads me on paths that are right. Even if I walk through a very dark valley, I will not be afraid because you are with me. Your rod and your shepherd’s staff comfort me. You prepare a meal for me in front of my enemies. You pour oil of blessing on my head. You give me more than I can hold. Surely your goodness and love will be with me all my life. And I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”

Psalm 23 International Children’s Bible

Hi Kids!

Today’s lesson comes from a verse in the bible called Psalm 23 (what you see above). It describes how the Lord, meaning God or Jesus, is like a shepherd and his people are his sheep. Now when we think of the Lord, a shepherd doesn’t really come to mind. In Jesus’ time, shepherds were thought to be the lowest of people with the worst job. Shepherds stayed out in the field all day with their sheep and usually came home looking and smelly dirty. How can the bible, therefore, compare our almighty Lord to that of a shepherd and us (his followers) as sheep? The video below by Redemption Church Kids goes more into detail on the comparison of the Lord and his people to that of a shepherd and sheep. The video also contains some fun games and a song to dance and sing along to. Enjoy!
