Hi Kids!
This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. We leave the Esau-and-Jacob story and move into stories leading up to the birth of Jesus. Today we will hear from the prophet Isaiah. Seven hundred years before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah foretold of a time of unprecedented peace. Watch the video below to learn more of Isaiah’s prophecy.
Isaiah’s message was delivered to people who were living through difficult times. His description of peaceful times ahead brought hope to a weary world. One could say we are living through difficult times now, and are in need of hope as well.
The wonderful thing about being God’s children is that we can help bring about hope for all to build a better, more peaceful world. Just like what Gabby mentioned in the video; helping others, telling your family you love them, taking care of the earth, or just being kind to others, builds hope. The more we do these types of things, the more hope spreads among others, and the more peaceful the world will be.
The first Sunday of Advent, or the coming of Jesus Christ, is a celebration of hope. We celebrate hope for a peaceful world, one that Isaiah described in his prophecy, and one that Jesus Christ will help to usher in. For today’s activity, let’s sing a song about hope (below).
