Hi Kids!
Today we are going to continue our lesson on blessings from God. Last week, we learned about Isaac (son of Abraham and Sarah) finding a bride (Rebekah). Once Isaac and Rebekah were married, they had a hard time having children just like Abraham and Sarah. Rebekah prayed to God and she became pregnant with twin boys, Jacob and Esau. Jacob and Esau couldn’t be any more different from one another and even fought with each in the womb! Rebekah prayed again to God on why this might be and God told Rebekah that her twin sons would be the leaders of two separate nations where the oldest brother would serve the younger. Watch the story below to learn more about Jacob and Esau:
What do you think Esau could have done to prevent him from losing his birthright to Jacob? Esau should have put in more thought in exchanging his birthright for a bowl of soup. Don’t you think? However, Jacob shouldn’t have tricked his brother. Jacob even tricked his father, Isaac, in getting what should have been Esau’s blessing. Nonetheless, Jacob ended up getting both the birthright and the blessing. Isaac’s blessing is especially important in this story because he was passing down the promise God had made to Abraham, Isaac’s father.
Jacob’s trickery could have been all in God’s plan because God did tell Rebekah that Jacob (the youngest) would rule over Esau (the oldest). Perhaps Jacob would have been blessed by God anyway without tricking his brother and father, but Jacob’s decisions caused him to have a bad relationship with his brother. When it comes to making decisions, it’s very important to time and think because decisions almost always come with consequences. The next time you have to make a decision, especially an important one, think of the consequences that could happen. If you still don’t know the right decision, pray and listen to God. Blessings from God may come to us anytime, even if we sit silently and listen for Him.
