Hi kids, welcome to today’s lesson!

Today we’re going way back in time; in fact, to the beginning of time when God created the world. Our home as we know it today as Earth was once a vast empty space with no light, no plants, no animals, and no people! But God is a very creative being and made all of which you see around you, even yourself. Watch the video below to learn how God created the world:

As we’ve seen from the story we watched, the world was so big and diverse with so many different living things that God decided He needed others to help Him care for them all. This is why God created people; to be his helpers. Even though God created people in His own image, God never intended for people to be just like Him, or to all look the same as Him. Just like how plants and animals are unique and different, God wanted people to also be unique and different.

You may start to notice the differences between yourself and other people. You might be shorter or taller than other kids your age, or you might have a different sized nose, or a different eye or skin color and so on, but that’s okay! It’s great, in fact. You are meant to be different than others and you are beautiful the way you are because God made it so.

For today’s activity, we’re going to create a portrait of ourselves. There are a few things you’ll need:

  • This worksheet (download/print):
  • A mirror (to see yourself)
  • Paint, markers, or crayons (whatever you have available)

Once you’ve printed the worksheet, look at yourself in the mirror. Using paint, markers or crayons, draw yourself in the mirror of the worksheet exactly how you see yourself in your actual mirror. Once you are done, display your portrait proudly and know that you are beautiful!
