Hi Kids & Welcome Back!
Today is Pentecost! Do you know what Pentecost means? Pentecost is a holy day that occurs 40 days after Easter where Christians celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. If you remember from last week, the Holy Spirit is what we are filled with when we are baptised and allows us to feel God within us. You may be wondering, “Why is Pentecost 40 days after Easter?” Well that’s because after Jesus was resurrected, he spent 40 days on Earth before he ascended to heaven to be with God. Christians not only celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost but also celebrate the birth of the Christian church!
Watch the video below to learn more about Pentecost,
Do you remember the part in the video when the disciples were gathered and suddenly a huge gust of wind came into the room and then tongues of flame settled on each person’s head? Well today, we are going to be recreating the flames by making fire crowns!
What you’ll need:
- Download and print this template for the flames and the headband that make up our crowns: Pentecost_FireCrown
- Scissors;
- Red, orange and yellow construction paper (can use plain paper, preferably thicker, to color with markers or crayons);
- Glue.
Instructions:
- Cut out all the pieces from the template you printed.
- Use the flame pieces as templates to trace them onto red, yellow and orange construction paper.
- Cut out the flame pieces and glue the pieces together. Glue the small flame on top of the medium flame and then the medium flame on top of the large flame.
- Grab the rectangle templates and trace the larger pieces onto the color of your choice and the smaller piece onto red construction paper. You will need three of each.
- Glue the smaller pieces to the larger pieces. Then glue the assembled parts together creating one long band.
- Glue the flame to the center of the band.
- Wrap the band around your head. Once you have the desired length use a couple of paper clips or a piece of tape to hold the shape. Then add glue to set it in place.
- Once you are done, you should have a fire crown that looks similar to the picture below:
