This Sunday, we will be taking a look at the events that took place after Jesus was placed in the tomb. With sorrow in her heart, Mary Magdalene went to Jesus’ tomb to complete his burial. Upon her arrival, Mary encountered something very unexpected….
View the short clip below to find what Mary saw at Jesus’ tomb.
Roll Away the Stone Activity
What you’ll need:
- Paper or styrofoam cup
- Aluminum foil sheet (about 24 inches)
- A piece of string
Instructions:
- Color the paper or styrofoam cup to make it resemble the tomb in which Jesus was placed. Color brown and green for stone and grass and even some pretty flowers on the cup.
- Puncture a hole in the center of the foil sheet. Put one end of the string in the hole and pull until the center of the string is in the hole (you should have about 12 inches of foil on each side of the string). Tape the string to the center of the foil then roll the foil into a ball leaving the string ends extended out. Here we have our stone!
- Punch another small hole in the bottom of the cup. Pull one end of the string into the hole in the cup. Place the cup on its side so that when you pull on the string in the cup, the foil “stone” will close and “seal” the cup or “tomb”. Pull the other end of the string connected to the foil “stone” and “roll the stone away” from the cup or “tomb”.
- Extra: if you have more time or interest, you can decorate the inside of a shoebox to make it look like a backdrop for the tomb with trees, the sky, the three crosses, etc.
