Anyone who has ever experienced a remodel, renovation, or reconstruction will readily admit that new construction is chaotic.
Even though there is novelty with new things occurring within one’s living space, when everything is out of order; when your situation lacks stability; when you find yourself in the tension of a new transition, there is a part of us that longs for things to be put back together.
Such was the case with King David and the nation. With the kingdom finally secure and David finally enjoy new construction, he has a seemingly grand idea: “Let’s build God a house.” However, we’re quick to discover that God had other building plans.
