It’s the very first thing we see Jesus doing in the Gospel of John…
It’s the lead off proclamation; it’s the first sign signaling a Savior’s arrival. One would expect to experience something special…something significant: Perhaps some fireworks of thunder and lightning. Maybe a celestial voice that would boom from Heaven, announcing that God has stepped foot on the scene.
But, alas, we see the Word made Flesh at a festive event with friends…and he’s there simply because someone wanted him to be.
Because of that, we see the significantly spiritual take place amidst the practical. I wonder if the wedding party knew. I wonder if they had any idea that God was on their guest list and that the Lord had accepted their invitation. I wonder if we’re ever aware of the miraculous taking place in our midst. Perhaps we’re looking in the wrong places.
Nevertheless, the Lord finds ways of doing incredible things as long as there’s an invitation, empty vessels and willing servants.
Join Rev. Jake Steele and CUMC as they bear witness to this very reality in the second chapter of the Gospel of John.
