During the Advent season, CUMC’s altar is adorned with red and white poinsettias. The poinsettia is a Christmas plant that reminds us of the birth and resurrection of our savior, Jesus Christ.
“Symbolically, we have Jesus’ life story in one plant. The leaves symbolize the star that led the Wise Men to the newborn Jesus, the red leaves are a reminder of the blood of Christ shed during His crucifixion and the white leaves represent Christ’s purity.” (Caviness, Crystal, 2019, The poinsettia: Jesus’ life story in a plant, https://www.umc.org/en/content/the-poinsettia-tells-jesus-life-story)
The poinsettias also serve to remind us to honor our loved ones who have left this earthly domain and joined our Father in His heavenly realm.
Poinsettia orders in memory of or in honor of a loved one are being taken until December 4th. To order poinsettias, please call the church office and speak with the Office Manager, Carla Barris, at 304-242-2455 or email Carla at christumcwheeling@gmail.com. Your payment must accompany your order. Poinsettas are $15 each.
