Hi Kids!

Today we’ll hear a story about a famous king from the bible, King David, and a promise he made to a dear friend. David was king of Israel, named “The Holy Land” in the Bible. Before David became king, he was a shepherd who was loved and blessed by God; so much so that God wanted David to become the next king of Israel. King David had a friend named Jonathon, son of the former king of Israel, King Saul. David and King Saul fought for the throne of Israel. David was triumphant in his endeavor for the throne, but it came with a cost; the death of King Saul and his friend, Jonathan. King David was heartbroken over the death of Jonathon and remembered the promise he once made to him. Watch the story below from Fishnet Bible Stories to learn what King David promised to Jonathon.

King David relied on God to help him rule Israel in the way God would want him to. Although he wasn’t a perfect king, David did his best to uphold God’s laws and was known as a kind and just king. This story reflects King David’s character and the reason why God wanted David to be king. Because he gave kindness freely, King David helped a man who would have otherwise lived a lonely life as Mephibosheth would have been rejected by others due to his disability. However, God made King David remember his promise to Jonathon; to take care of Jonathon’s family. It’s important to remember that God will always help and look after those who are kind to others just as King David was kind to Mephibosheth.

For today’s activity, a coloring page is provided depicting Mephibosheth kneeling to and thanking King David for his kindness. Download/print the pdf below to get started.
