Hi Kids!
Today’s story is about three people from the bible; a king of Israel named David, a wealthy yet mean man named Nabal, and a kind lady who was the wife of Nabal named Abigail. One day, King David and his men were passing through a land called Carmel near where Nabal and Abigail lived. King David was in need of supplies so he sent his men to politely ask Nabal for some. Nabal refused to give supplies to King David and was rude to his men. King David then became furious with Nabal and sought revenge on him, but Abigail intervened. Watch the story below by LifeKids to learn what happened between King David, Nabal, and Abigail.
As you saw from the story, Abigail made peace between King David and Nabal. If it were not for Abigail’s actions, King David would have fought Nabal and end up hurting a lot of people. If this happened, God would have been angry. Perhaps God sent Abigail to put an end to this strife before the matter got out of hand. There are two important lessons to take away from this story. The first lesson is that although we may get angry from time to time, God wants us to control our anger. God does not want us to seek revenge on those who have wronged us, because in many cases, getting revenge only makes things worse. King David was right in listening to Abigail and decide that getting revenge wasn’t worth the terrible consequences that could follow. The second lesson is that God wants us to make peace. When you see two people fighting, be like Abigail by trying to offer peace and forgiveness between the two.
To help us remember to always make peace, let’s dance and sing along to an adaptation of the hymn, “Peace Like a River” by CJ and Friends.
