Happy Easter!

Today we will hear the story of Easter and why it is celebrated; Jesus’ resurrection! “What’s resurrection?”, you may be wondering. Resurrection is the act of coming back to life after death. Jesus’ resurrection showed people that he truly was the son of God, for no other person without divine qualities could have done the same. Unfortunately, Jesus had to die before he could be resurrected. Death is a hard topic to think about, but Jesus’ death was a part of God’s plan to save people from their sins. Watch the story below to learn more about Jesus’ resurrection.

Even though death is a topic that no one likes to think about, let alone discuss, it’s important to understand why Jesus had to die. You see, Jesus wasn’t the only one who had to make a sacrifice by giving his life. God also made a sacrifice by giving his only son. God and Jesus did this so that all people would be forgiven of their sins and be able to join God in heaven to have eternal life after they part from this Earth. Jesus’ resurrection is a miracle in itself, and some good things came from it. Whereas Jesus’ death was dark and sad, his resurrection filled people with wonder and amazement. The woman who cared for Jesus and visited his tomb, Mary Magdalene, was filled with wonder and amazement to see Jesus alive and well. The disciples, too, were amazed. Jesus’ resurrection shows us that God can do truly amazing things.

Easter is about celebration, but before the joy there is darkness. We all feel sadness and pain sometimes. Easter reminds us that even Jesus suffered, but the story wasn’t over. This week, find a plastic Easter egg. Write on a piece of paper something that might be painful or difficult, and then place it inside the egg. During the week, hold the egg while you pray. Remember today’s Bible story as you pray. Remember that Jesus goes before you. The resurrection story teaches us that the world brings suffering, but Jesus brings hope. Each day we get a chance to celebrate and to be resurrected. The pain will not last forever. There is joy coming in the morning.

On this Easter Sunday, Jesus has risen. Let’s jump for joy! Sing and dance along to the song below.

When Mary visited Jesus’ tomb, she found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Below is a coloring page for you to do depicting the empty tomb and the wonderful exclamation, “Christ is Risen!”
