Our Father,

who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name;

thy kingdom come;

thy will be done;

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation;

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

the power,

and the glory, forever.

Amen.

Matthew 6: 9-13 (NRSV)

Hi Kids!

Do you know what the scripture above is? That’s right! It’s the Lord’s prayer. Jesus once taught his disciples how to pray to God and used this scripture as an example. Today, many Christians around the world use this scripture to pray to God, especially during church services. And just how there is a right way to pray to God, there’s also a wrong way, in which Jesus also taught his disciples this. Watch the video below to learn more.

The Lord’s prayer is divided into two parts: first, the acknowledgment of God’s greatness; second, asking for our human needs, such as food, to be met. We also ask for God’s forgiveness and guidance with the Lord’s prayer. You don’t always have to use the Lord’s prayer to pray to God. The Lord’s prayer is just a guideline to help you pray for the right things. As you saw from the video, prayers should not be “showy” to impress others or a long list of things we don’t really need but merely want. God already knows what we want and need. Prayer should be about seeking a more personal and private relationship with God.

For today’s activity, there is a fun song to sing and dance along to in the video below. This song will help you to remember the Lord’s prayer. Enjoy!
