Hi Kids!
Did you have a good Christmas this year? What was the best part of your Christmas experience, and how did you celebrate? Christmas is a special time of year full of joy and celebration. We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and the coming of the Messiah. When people heard of the birth of Jesus, they joyfully celebrated their Savior’s arrival, but how did the people come to know of the news? Watch the story below to learn more.
There is one important detail to take away from this story; God chose shepherds to be the first to hear the joyous news of the birth of Jesus. The interesting thing about this is that shepherds were considered very low-status members of society in Jesus’ time. People thought shepherds were dirty and uneducated, and they often were shunned by others. God chose shepherds because God’s love is far-reaching and anyone, including shepherds, had a chance for salvation.
The shepherds were successful in spreading the news of Jesus’ birth to the rest of the community. This week, be like the shepherds and share the good news with others by making a point of finding something positive about the day to tell other people. Also, try to be open to hearing the good news that others have to share. Ask yourself where you see God’s goodness and how you can celebrate it by sharing it with others.
For today’s activity, a color by number page is provided. The page depicts the shepherds arriving to the barn in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Download/print the page below and follow the instructions.
